Thermador Pro Grand Range Cool-Touch Surface Child Safety Notice

Thermador Pro Grand range child safety notice — owners of Thermador Pro Grand and Pro Harmony Series ranges with young children in the household are advised on burn prevention practices, supervision guidance, and safe distance considerations during normal cooking and immediately after.

Why this matters

Pro Grand ranges are designed for high-output professional cooking and reach surface temperatures far higher than typical home ranges. The Star Burner grates, the side trim, the front control panel area, and the oven door can all reach temperatures hot enough to cause second and third degree burns on contact. Even after the range is switched off, residual heat can persist on these surfaces for 30 minutes to an hour. Young children are particularly vulnerable because their reach height is at the level of the front control knobs and the oven door handle.

Hot surfaces to be aware of

  • Star Burner grates: reach 600 to 800 degrees Fahrenheit during use; remain hot for 30+ minutes after the burner is turned off
  • Oven door exterior: 250 to 400 degrees during baking; the door window glass can exceed 200 degrees during the self-clean cycle
  • Side trim panels: warm to hot during extended use of multiple burners
  • Griddle and grill sections (48 and 60 inch models): the griddle plate reaches 400 to 500 degrees and remains hot for an hour after cooking
  • Front control knobs: warm to the touch during use due to proximity to the burner heat

Safety practices for households with children

  1. Establish a clear “no kids in front of the range” rule when any burner or the oven is in use
  2. Use the rear burners whenever possible — the front burners are within reach of small children
  3. Turn pot handles inward toward the back of the range so they cannot be grabbed from the front
  4. Use the front control knob lock feature (where available) to prevent accidental activation by curious hands
  5. Install a stove guard rail accessory if the kitchen layout allows children to walk close to the range
  6. Never leave a hot range unattended even for a moment when children are in the home

If a burn occurs

For minor burns: cool the affected area under cool running water for 10 to 15 minutes, then cover loosely with a clean cloth. For burns larger than the size of the child palm, or any burn on the face, hands, or genitals, seek medical care immediately. Call 911 or local emergency services for any burn that blisters severely, is white or charred, or is accompanied by signs of shock.

Cool-down practice

Train children to understand that “the stove is hot” applies even when no burner is visibly on. The Star Burner grates can stay too hot to touch for 30 minutes after the burner is switched off. Establish a household rule that children cannot approach the range until an adult confirms it is fully cool.
