Thermador Freezer E30 Error: Ice Maker Cycle Fault

thermador freezer e30 error indicates ice maker cycle fault. Stop using the appliance and call a Thermador-certified technician immediately for diagnosis. What Does Thermador Freezer Error Code E30 Mean? The E30 error code on a Thermador Freedom Collection column freezer indicates the ice maker cannot complete its production cycle. Thermador T18IF, T24IF, and T36IF column […]

Quick Assessment

Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

Maybe. The freezer continues to freeze food correctly while E30 is active — the fault is isolated to the ice maker circuit. The unit is safe for frozen food storage but will not produce ice.

Can I reset the code?

Yes. A breaker reset combined with a temperature adjustment can clear E30 if the cause was a frozen water line. If the inlet valve or ice maker module has failed, E30 returns after every reset until the faulty component is replaced.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: Water is leaking from the ice maker area onto the freezer floor, E30 reappears within minutes after every reset with no ice produced.

Symptoms You May Notice

Ice maker stopped producing ice and displays E30

The ice bin is empty or nearly empty and has not been refilling. The ice maker module shows E30 on the display and the production cycle has halted.

Ice maker arm is stuck in the raised position

The harvest arm or bail arm on the ice maker is stuck fully raised — the position that signals the bin is full — even though the bin is empty, indicating the sensor or mechanism has failed.

Water supply solenoid clicks but no water enters the ice maker

A faint click is audible when the ice maker calls for water, but no water flows into the ice tray, suggesting a frozen water supply line or a failed inlet valve solenoid.

Possible Causes

1

Frozen water supply line

The water supply line running to the ice maker has frozen solid, preventing water from reaching the fill valve even though the valve solenoid is energized.

DIY Possible
2

Failed water inlet valve

The water inlet valve solenoid that controls water flow to the ice maker has failed open or closed, stopping the fill phase of the ice production cycle.

3

Failed ice maker module or stuck harvest mechanism

The ice maker module itself has failed — the motor, thermostat, or control circuit within the module is preventing the harvest cycle from completing.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

Verify the ice maker is switched on and the water supply valve is open

Locate the ice maker on/off switch or arm inside the freezer and confirm it is in the on position. Then check behind the freezer column that the saddle valve or shut-off valve supplying water is fully open.

Thermador T18IF, T24IF, and T36IF column freezers have the water supply connection at the rear lower edge. If the valve was partially closed during installation or cleaning, insufficient water pressure prevents a successful fill cycle.

  2. 2

Check the water line for freezing

If the freezer temperature has been set extremely low (below 0°F / -18°C), the water supply line inside the column may have frozen. Raise the freezer setpoint to 0°F (-18°C), wait 2 hours, and then initiate a manual ice maker cycle if the model supports it.

Thermador Freedom column freezers are designed to operate at 0°F (-18°C). Setting the temperature below this range can freeze the water fill tube inside the column. Returning to the correct setpoint and waiting usually thaws the line without service.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • No water enters the ice tray even with the water line confirmed unfrozen and supply valve fully open
  • Water inlet valve solenoid does not click when the ice maker calls for fill
  • Ice maker module cycles correctly on a test but still does not produce ice after a confirmed water supply
