Thermador Pro Grand Gas Range Burner Valve Safety Notice

Thermador gas range valve safety notice — owners of Thermador Pro Grand, Pro Harmony, and Professional Series gas ranges are advised to schedule an annual gas burner valve inspection by a qualified technician to prevent gas leaks, slow ignition, and unburned gas accumulation hazards. This is a general safety advisory, not a CPSC recall.

Why this matters

The Star Burner valve assemblies on Thermador Pro Series gas ranges are precision components that can develop wear over years of daily use. Common wear modes include: degraded valve stem o-rings allowing slow gas leaks, debris buildup in the burner orifice causing slow ignition or yellow flame, and worn ignition spark electrodes causing delayed light-off and unburned gas accumulation.

Warning signs

  • A burner that takes longer than 4 to 5 seconds to ignite after the knob is turned to high
  • A faint gas odor near the cooktop even with all burners off (test with the kitchen ventilation hood off)
  • Yellow or orange tips on what should be a clean blue flame
  • A burner that lights inconsistently, sometimes failing to ignite at all
  • Audible clicking from the spark module that continues after the burner has lit

Recommended action

  1. If a gas odor is detected, turn off the range immediately at the gas shutoff valve behind the unit and ventilate the kitchen
  2. Do not attempt to operate the range until a qualified technician has confirmed the gas system is sealed
  3. Schedule an annual safety inspection with a Thermador-certified technician — typical inspection covers all burner valves, ignition modules, gas line fittings, and the safety solenoid behind the regulator
  4. Replace any failed valve seals or worn igniters with genuine BSH-supplied parts only

Special note for Pro Grand owners

The 48-inch and 60-inch Pro Grand ranges have between 6 and 8 Star Burners plus a griddle and grill section. The number of gas valves on these large ranges multiplies the inspection scope, and Thermador recommends inspection by a technician with specific Pro Grand range training.
