Thermador Ceramic Cooktop Fire Recall 2007 | CPSC

Thermador ceramic cooktop recall 2007 — BSH Home Appliances Corporation voluntarily recalled approximately 2,000 Thermador brand ceramic glass cooktops in April 2007, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, due to a fire hazard from elements that can activate without user input.

Hazard

The recalled ceramic cooktops have a control board defect that can cause a heating element to come on by itself even when the cooktop has been switched off. If a flammable item — paper towel, cookbook, plastic container, dish towel — is left on the cooktop surface, the unattended hot element can ignite it and start a kitchen fire.

Affected units

  • Brand: Thermador ceramic glass cooktops (Masterpiece line)
  • Total units: approximately 2,000 in the United States
  • Sold: October 2006 through March 2007
  • Price range: $1,800 to $2,200
  • Sold at: authorized Thermador dealers, kitchen showrooms, and appliance retailers nationwide
  • Specific model numbers: CIT302DS/01 and CIT362DS/01
  • Date codes: 8606 through 8612

How to identify

Model and serial numbers are located on a label underneath the cooktop, visible from inside the cabinet below. Owners should compare their model number against the BSH recall list before continuing to use the cooktop. Affected units have specific Masterpiece series model numbers manufactured during the late-2006 to early-2007 production window.

What to do

  1. Stop using the cooktop immediately if it is part of the recall
  2. Disconnect electrical power to the cooktop at the circuit breaker until the recall repair has been completed
  3. Never leave any flammable items on the cooktop surface — even when the unit is switched off
  4. Contact BSH Home Appliances at 888-965-5813 to schedule the free in-home repair from an authorized Thermador technician

Urgency level

High. The unattended activation hazard makes this an active CPSC recall requiring immediate consumer action.
