Thermador microwave oven recall 2001 — BSH Home Appliances Corporation announced a voluntary recall in May 2001 to repair certain Thermador brand thermal/microwave combination wall ovens, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Hazard
The affected combination wall ovens have an electrical defect in the upper microwave compartment that can cause arcing, overheating, and a potential fire hazard. The defect is associated with specific control board revisions used during the recall production window.
Affected units
- Brand: Thermador thermal/microwave combination built-in wall ovens
- Configuration: double cavity built-in units with a conventional thermal oven below and a microwave oven above
- Sold at: authorized Thermador dealers, luxury kitchen showrooms, and appliance retailers nationwide
- Specific model numbers: CM301UB, CM302UB, CM301UW, CM302UW, CM301US, CM302US
- Serial numbers beginning with: 2003 through 2010
- Total units: approximately 2,300
How to identify
Model and serial numbers are located on a metal data plate on the frame of the lower oven cavity, visible when the lower oven door is opened. Owners of any Thermador combination thermal/microwave built-in wall oven from the late 1990s and early 2000s should verify against the BSH recall list.
What to do
- Stop using the microwave portion of the combination oven if any signs of arcing, sparking, or burning smell are present
- The lower thermal oven can typically continue to be used for baking and broiling at standard temperatures
- Contact BSH Home Appliances at 888-965-5813 to verify recall eligibility
- Schedule the free in-home repair from an authorized Thermador technician — the repair installs a corrected control board assembly
