Thermador dishwasher supply hose inspection notice — owners of Thermador Sapphire and Star-Sapphire built-in dishwashers are advised to perform an annual visual inspection of the hot water supply hose connection to prevent failures that can cause significant kitchen water damage. This is a general safety advisory, not a CPSC recall.
Why this matters
Even premium Thermador dishwashers connect to the household hot water line through a flexible braided supply hose. Over time the hose, the connection nut, and the rubber gasket inside the connector can degrade — especially in homes with hard water, high water pressure, or in the warm under-sink environment. A hose burst or a slow weep at the connector can release dozens of gallons per hour into the kitchen cabinet floor before being noticed.
Recommended inspection
- At least once a year, open the cabinet beneath the sink where the dishwasher supply line enters the wall
- Inspect the braided stainless hose for visible bulges, kinks, fraying, or rust spots on the braid
- Feel along the hose with a clean dry paper towel — any moisture indicates a slow leak that needs attention
- Check the brass connection nut at the angle stop and at the dishwasher inlet — both should be dry and free of mineral buildup
- Verify the angle stop valve still turns freely (do not force it)
When to act
Replace the supply hose every 5 to 7 years as preventive maintenance regardless of visible condition. Use only a Thermador-approved braided stainless steel supply hose rated for dishwasher use. Older rubber-only hoses should be replaced immediately.
Why Thermador owners specifically
Sapphire and Star-Sapphire dishwashers feature a built-in AquaStop flood protection system, but AquaStop only protects against leaks at the dishwasher itself — it cannot detect a burst hose at the wall connection upstream of the appliance. The annual visual inspection covers what AquaStop cannot.
If a Thermador dishwasher leak is suspected, schedule a Thermador-certified technician for diagnosis before the next normal wash cycle.
