Thermador Oven FF Error: A-to-D Converter Failure

thermador oven ff error indicates a-to-d converter failure. Stop using the appliance and call a Thermador-certified technician immediately for diagnosis. What Does Thermador Oven Error Code FF Mean? The FF error code on a Thermador Professional or Masterpiece single wall oven — POD, MED, ME, MEM, MEDS, and MEMC model lines — indicates failure of […]

Quick Assessment

Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

No. A failed ADC means the oven cannot read any sensor input accurately. The control cannot regulate heat and the oven must not be used until the relay board or sensor is replaced.

Can I reset the code?

No. An extended reset can clear FF if the cause was a transient power event. If the ADC chip has permanently failed, FF returns every time the oven attempts to read a sensor value.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: FF returns after the 10-minute extended reset on every attempt, Display shows random or fluctuating temperature values before locking out.

Symptoms You May Notice

Oven displays wildly inconsistent cavity temperatures at startup

Before locking out, the display briefly flickers between implausible temperature values — far too high or far too low for the actual cavity conditions.

All cooking modes fail immediately after selection

Bake, Broil, and Convection all produce FF within seconds because the ADC cannot return a valid sensor reading for any mode.

FF appears right after a power restoration event

The error first showed up after a power outage, brownout, or utility switching event, suggesting the surge damaged the ADC chip.

Possible Causes

1

Failed ADC chip on the relay control board

The analog-to-digital converter integrated into the relay board has failed from surge damage or age, making all sensor readings unreliable.

2

Power supply instability on the relay board

The reference voltage that the ADC uses for its conversions has drifted or collapsed, causing the chip to return garbage readings even though the sensor itself is healthy.

Requires Professional
3

Failed RTD sensor producing extreme out-of-range resistance

A catastrophically failed sensor is delivering a resistance value so far outside the expected range that the ADC cannot convert it and reports FF instead of a standard sensor fault code.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

Extended breaker reset — 10 minutes

Switch the dedicated oven breaker off and leave it off for 10 minutes. This is intentionally longer than a standard reset to let ADC reference capacitors fully discharge.

Some Thermador Professional POD and Masterpiece MEM boards clear a transient ADC error after a full 10-minute drain. If FF clears and stays clear for several cooking cycles, the error was caused by a transient event.

  2. 2

Note whether any other codes appear

After restoring power, watch the display carefully during the boot sequence. Record any other error codes that flash before FF settles on the display.

A combination of FF with F3 or F4 hints that an extreme sensor reading triggered the ADC error, not a board failure. A standalone FF strongly points to the board.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • FF reproduces every power-up regardless of reset duration
  • Visible scorch marks or swollen components on the relay control board
  • Recent home electrical event — surge, outage, or generator switch — preceded the failure
