Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

Yes. NO-LIGHT is a convenience issue, not a safety issue. The range hood ventilation system is unaffected by the light failure. Continue using the hood for ventilation while you replace the lamp or schedule service for the light circuit.

Can I reset the code?

No. A failed lamp cannot be reset — it must be replaced. A failed lamp socket or control board lighting circuit also cannot be cleared by a reset; those components require physical repair or replacement.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: New lamp does not illuminate after correct installation, Burning smell from the lamp housing area.

Symptoms You May Notice

Pressing the light button produces no illumination

The light switch is pressed and no light output is produced over the cooking surface on any of the available brightness levels.

One or more light positions are dark while others remain lit

On Thermador hoods with multiple light positions across the width of the hood, some lamps are lit while one or more remain dark, indicating individual lamp or socket failure.

Light flickers or dims significantly before going out completely

The hood light flickered and dimmed over several weeks of use before finally failing — a classic sign of an aging halogen bulb nearing the end of its service life.

Possible Causes

1

Burned-out halogen or LED lamp

The halogen or LED replacement lamp inside the light housing has reached end of life and needs to be replaced.

DIY Possible
2

Failed lamp socket or socket wiring

The socket that holds the lamp has a broken contact or the wiring from the control board to the socket has developed an open circuit.

3

Failed lighting control circuit on the control board

The section of the range hood control board that routes power to the lighting circuit has failed, preventing any voltage from reaching the lamp.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

    Replace the halogen lamp

Switch the hood off and allow the lamp area to cool completely — halogen lamps reach very high surface temperatures and will burn bare skin. On Thermador HMCB, HMCN, and HPCN hoods, the lamp housing is accessed from below the hood by removing the filter and the lamp cover. Use the correct replacement lamp type specified in your model's use-and-care guide.

When installing a new halogen lamp, never touch the glass envelope with bare skin — oils from your fingers cause hot spots that shorten halogen lamp life dramatically. Use a clean cloth or the provided plastic sleeve to handle the new lamp.

  2. 2

Check that the lamp is correctly seated in its socket

With the hood unplugged or the breaker off, verify that the replacement lamp is pushed fully into the socket contacts. On some Thermador hood models the lamp twists to lock; on others it pushes straight in. A partially seated lamp will not make contact and will appear dead even if it is functional.

If the new lamp does not illuminate after correct installation, the socket or the lighting control circuit has failed — the lamp replacement was not the root cause.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • New lamp confirmed as correct type but does not illuminate
  • Socket contacts visibly damaged or corroded
  • Lighting circuit on the control board shows no output voltage even with a new lamp installed
