Thermador Built-In Oven Self-Clean Fire Recall 2007 | CPSC

Thermador built-in oven recall 2007 — BSH Home Appliances Corporation voluntarily recalled approximately 42,000 Thermador brand built-in wall ovens in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall was announced in August 2007 due to a fire hazard during the oven self-clean cycle.

Hazard

Affected Thermador wall ovens have gaps in the cavity insulation where extreme heat can escape during the self-clean cycle. The escaping heat can cause surrounding kitchen cabinetry, countertops, and adjacent combustible surfaces to overheat and ignite. BSH received reports of incidents involving cabinet scorching and at least one minor fire prior to the recall announcement.

Affected units

  • Brand: Thermador built-in wall ovens (single, double, and combination models)
  • Total units: approximately 42,000 in the United States
  • Sold: from authorized Thermador dealers, kitchen showrooms, and appliance retailers nationwide
  • Affected series: certain Masterpiece and Professional Series wall ovens with self-clean function
  • Specific single-oven model numbers: C271B, C301B, SEC271B, SEC301B
  • Sold: November 2004 through May 2007 at appliance and specialty stores nationwide
  • Price range: $2,400 to $3,900

How to identify

Model and serial numbers are located on a metal data plate on the oven cavity frame, visible when the oven door is opened. Owners should check their model and serial against the BSH recall verification tool before using the self-clean function.

What to do

  1. Do not use the self-clean function on any affected Thermador wall oven until the recall repair has been completed
  2. The oven can continue to be used for normal baking and broiling at standard cooking temperatures
  3. Contact BSH Home Appliances at 888-965-5813 to verify whether the unit is part of the recall
  4. BSH provides a free in-home inspection and insulation repair by an authorized Thermador technician

Urgency level

High during self-clean operation. The hazard is specific to the high-temperature self-clean cycle. The recall was expanded in 2010 to include additional wall oven model years.
