Thermador Combination Thermal Microwave Oven Recall 2007

Thermador combination thermal microwave oven recall 2007 — BSH Home Appliances Corporation voluntarily recalled certain Thermador brand built-in combination ovens that pair a conventional thermal oven with an upper microwave oven. The recall was announced August 2007 in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and shares the same insulation defect as the parallel single-oven recall announced on the same date.

Hazard

Affected combination ovens have gaps in the thermal cavity insulation where extreme heat can escape during the self-clean cycle. The escaping heat can cause the surrounding kitchen cabinetry — including the cabinet sections immediately above and below the combination unit — to overheat and ignite.

Affected units

  • Brand: Thermador combination thermal/microwave built-in wall ovens
  • Specific model numbers: SEM272B, SEM302B, SEMW272B, SEMW302B
  • Configuration: built-in combination units with a conventional thermal oven below and a microwave oven above (different from the single-oven C-series and SEC-series models recalled the same day)
  • Sold: November 2004 through May 2007 at appliance and specialty stores nationwide
  • Price range: $2,400 to $3,900

How to identify

Model and serial numbers are located on a metal data plate on the lower thermal oven cavity frame, visible when the lower oven door is opened. The recalled combination units share the SEM and SEMW model prefixes — owners should verify the model number against the official BSH recall list before using the self-clean function.

What to do

  1. Do not use the self-clean function on any affected Thermador combination oven until the recall repair has been completed
  2. The microwave portion and the standard baking and broiling functions can continue to be used at normal cooking temperatures
  3. Contact BSH Home Appliances at 888-965-5813 to verify recall eligibility
  4. BSH provides a free in-home insulation repair from an authorized Thermador technician

Urgency level

High during self-clean operation. The hazard is specific to the high-temperature pyrolytic cycle. Standard cooking and microwave operation are not affected by this recall.
