Thermador dishwasher rinse aid notice — owners of Thermador Sapphire and Star-Sapphire built-in dishwashers are advised on safe rinse aid product selection, dispenser refill technique, and storage practices. Improper rinse aid handling can cause skin and eye irritation and can damage the rinse aid dispenser membrane over time.
Why this matters
Sapphire and Star-Sapphire dishwashers use a precision rinse aid dispenser with a calibrated metering valve. The dispenser is designed for liquid rinse aid products that meet specific viscosity and chemical compatibility specifications. Generic, off-brand, or solid-form rinse aid products can clog the metering valve, damage the dispenser membrane, and void the dispenser warranty.
Approved rinse aid products
- Use only Finish, Cascade, or Thermador-approved liquid rinse aid products
- Do not use solid rinse aid tablets, gel formulations, or two-in-one detergent-rinse-aid combo products in the rinse aid dispenser compartment
- Avoid generic or store-brand rinse aids that do not list compatibility with European-built dishwashers (Thermador Sapphire is built in the BSH European production line)
Safe refill technique
- Open the dishwasher door fully and locate the rinse aid dispenser cap on the inner door panel — typically marked with a star or rinse aid icon
- Unscrew the cap counterclockwise and set it aside on a clean surface
- Slowly pour rinse aid into the reservoir until the indicator window shows full — do not overfill
- Wipe up any spilled rinse aid immediately with a damp cloth — spilled product left in the door seal area can cause excess foaming during the next wash cycle
- Reseat the cap and turn clockwise until snug — do not overtighten
Skin contact safety
Rinse aid is mildly irritating to skin and eyes. If rinse aid contacts skin, rinse with cool water for several minutes. If contact with eyes occurs, rinse with cool water for at least 15 minutes and contact a medical professional. Keep rinse aid bottles in their original packaging and store away from children and pets.
When to refill
The rinse aid indicator on the front display will illuminate when the reservoir level is low. Refill at this point — running the dishwasher with an empty rinse aid reservoir will result in spotted glassware and reduced drying performance.
