Quick Assessment
Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. When the element supervisor circuit detects a fault, the oven cannot heat safely. Do not bypass the error or try to force operation.
Can I reset the code?
No. A reset clears the display but the underlying fault — failed element, damaged wiring, or failed power board — remains. F1 returns the next time the oven attempts to heat.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: F1 returns immediately after every reset, Visible damage to a heating element.
Symptoms You May Notice
Oven shuts off heating elements within seconds of starting a cycle
The bake or broil program begins, then the elements cut out almost immediately and F1 appears on the display.
Cavity remains cold throughout the entire program
The display shows the oven preheating but no actual heat develops inside the cavity.
F1 appears intermittently, then becomes constant
Early on the error came and went, but it now appears every time the oven is used.
Possible Causes
Failed main power relay board
The main power board that switches the heating elements has lost the supervisor circuit needed to confirm safe operation.
Requires ProfessionalDamaged element wiring
One of the high-current wires between the power board and the bake or broil element has been damaged by heat or chafing.
Requires ProfessionalFailed bake or broil heating element
A heating element has gone open or partially shorted, putting the supervisor circuit into a fault state.
Requires ProfessionalSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Reset and try a different cooking mode
Switch the breaker off for 5 minutes and restore power. Try Bake first, then Broil, then Convection. Note which modes trigger F1.
F1 from only one mode points to the element for that mode. F1 from every mode points to the power board itself.
-
2
Visually inspect the heating elements
With the oven cool and power off, look at the bake element on the bottom of the cavity and the broil element on the top. Check for visible breaks, blistering, or arcing damage.
A failed Thermador element often shows a clear break or blackened spot. Intact-looking elements can still be electrically failed and need a multimeter test.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- Element shows infinite resistance on a multimeter
- Visible scorch marks on the power board
- F1 affects multiple cooking modes simultaneously
