Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. Do not operate the dishwasher when E15 is active. The flood protection system has engaged for a reason — continuing to run risks water damage to the cabinet, subfloor, and nearby cabinetry. Shut off the water supply valve and arrange service.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. E15 can be temporarily cleared by draining the base tray (tilting forward) and then resetting the breaker. However, it will return as soon as a new leak fills the tray again. The underlying leak must be repaired.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: Water is visible on the kitchen floor around the dishwasher, E15 returns within one or two cycles of clearing the base tray.
Symptoms You May Notice
Dishwasher stops mid-cycle and will not restart
The current cycle halts abruptly and the control panel shows E15. Pressing Start has no effect.
Water visible under or around the dishwasher
A small amount of water is visible at the kickplate or on the floor in front of the dishwasher.
Drain pump runs continuously even when no cycle is active
An audible pumping sound persists long after the cycle should have finished, as the unit tries to remove water from the base tray.
Possible Causes
Degraded door seal or gasket
The rubber door gasket has cracked or pulled away from its channel, allowing small amounts of wash water to escape and drip into the base tray during each cycle.
DIY PossibleCracked or loose inlet hose connection
The water supply hose connection at the inlet valve has loosened or the hose has developed a crack, dripping water into the base.
Requires ProfessionalPump assembly seal failure
The circulation pump or drain pump seal has failed, allowing water from the tub to leak into the base tray during high-pressure wash cycles.
Requires ProfessionalDetergent overfill causing excessive foam
Excess detergent or non-dishwasher-safe detergent has created so much foam that it overflows the tub and enters the base tray, tripping the float switch without a true leak.
DIY PossibleSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Tilt the dishwasher to drain the base tray
With the power off, carefully tilt the dishwasher forward about 45 degrees for 60 seconds to drain any water from the base tray. This allows the float switch to drop back down and may allow E15 to clear after a reset.
This is a temporary fix — E15 will return if the leak source is not identified and repaired. Tilting only drains the tray; it does not fix the leak.

2
Inspect the door gasket
Run your finger along the entire door gasket looking for cracks, tears, or sections that have pulled out of their retaining channel. Pay particular attention to the bottom corners where the gasket bears the most stress.
A gasket leak from a damaged seal is visible as dried white mineral deposits on the dishwasher exterior below the door. This is the most homeowner-serviceable cause of E15.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- Water dripping from the pump area under the tub
- Visible crack in the inlet hose or supply fitting
- Wash water escaping from the door during a cycle despite gasket inspection
