Thermador Coffee Machine ERROR-1 Error: Machine Too Cold
Thermador coffee machine Error-1 error indicates machine too cold. Review the diagnostic steps below before calling a technician for help. What Does Thermador Coffee Machine Error 1 Mean? Error 1 on a Thermador Masterpiece built-in coffee machine means the machine is too cold to operate, or the temperature monitoring circuit has detected a condition it […]
Quick Assessment
Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. The machine cannot brew while Error 1 is active. Allow it to warm to room temperature and power cycle before attempting use. If Error 1 persists in a warm environment, schedule professional service before using the machine.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. If Error 1 was caused by a genuinely cold machine, it clears after the machine warms to room temperature and is power cycled. A failed temperature sensor requires component replacement and cannot be cleared by a reset.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: Error 1 persists after confirmed room-temperature warm-up and power cycle, Machine is at normal kitchen temperature but Error 1 will not clear.
Symptoms You May Notice
Machine displays Error 1 and refuses to start any program
On power-on, the machine runs its startup check and immediately displays Error 1, refusing to proceed to the standby or ready state.
Machine was stored in a cold location such as a garage or unheated room
The Thermador TCM24 or BICM24CS was moved from a cold storage space or the installation environment dropped significantly below normal kitchen temperature overnight.
Error 1 appears in a temperature-controlled kitchen with no obvious cold condition
The kitchen temperature is normal but Error 1 persists, suggesting the internal temperature sensor has failed and is reporting a false cold reading to the control board.
Possible Causes
Machine too cold from storage or installation environment
The machine or its water circuit has been exposed to temperatures below the minimum operating threshold — approximately 10 degrees Celsius — and needs to warm to room temperature before startup.
DIY PossibleFailed internal temperature sensor
The NTC thermistor that monitors internal machine temperature has failed and reports an out-of-range cold reading even when the machine is at normal kitchen temperature.
Requires ProfessionalHeating element not warming up on startup
The machine's thermoblock or boiler is not heating as commanded on startup, causing the temperature sensor to read a correctly cold internal temperature because the heater has failed.
Requires ProfessionalSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Allow the machine to warm to room temperature
If the machine was recently moved from a cold location, leave it powered off and unplugged in the kitchen for at least two hours before attempting to start it. Do not use a heat gun or external heat source. Once the machine has equilibrated to kitchen temperature, plug in and power on.
Thermador Masterpiece coffee machines must not be started immediately after being moved from a cold environment — condensation inside the machine can cause short circuits if the unit is powered on before it reaches room temperature.
-
2
Power cycle after the warm-up period
After allowing the machine to reach room temperature, switch the mains power switch off for 30 seconds and restore power. The startup temperature check will re-run with the machine at ambient temperature. If Error 1 does not appear and the machine proceeds to its warm-up phase, the cold environment was the confirmed cause.
If Error 1 persists in a warm kitchen environment after a 30-second reset, the temperature sensor is misreading — the machine is not actually cold, but the sensor is reporting that it is. This requires professional service.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- Error 1 persists in a room-temperature kitchen after two-hour warm-up and reset
- Temperature sensor resistance reads out of range at room temperature
- Thermoblock or boiler does not reach operating temperature within the startup window
